TANZANIA: Dar’s New Coadjutor Archbishop Ready for Task Ahead

Most Rev. Jude Thadaeus Ruwa'ichi, OFM Cap. Coadjutor Archbishop of Dar-es-Salaam

The Coadjutor Archbishop for the Archdiocese of Dar-es-salaam, Most Rev. Jude Thadaeus Ruwa’ichi, O.F.M. Cap., has said that he gratefully received his appointment. He has told the lay men and women that he is willing to serve them in obedience, despite the new challenges that he might encounter.

He has issued this statement during the Holy Mass of his reception held in St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Dar-es-Salaam, on September 7, 2018 which was attended by hundreds of lay people.

“I accept it with gratitude and I have a strong desire to cooperate with you fellow ministers in the serving people of God because, in the Church, we don’t have the notion of being transferred; we have the notion of being sent and of serving. I’m ready to serve you,” he said.

Archbishop Ruwa’ichi has promised to pray for the believers in Mwanza Archdiocese where served before his appointment to Dar-es-salaam, so that there too Christians can get a new bishop.

“Receive Christ as your Shepherd – He who is always with you without being transferred, and do not give up in hoping,” he added.

Giving his speech, the Archbishop of Dar-es-Salaam Archdiocese, His Eminence Polycarp Cardinal Pengo informed the Congregation that he is the one who actually requested the Holy Father, Pope Francis, to give him the Coadjutor Bishop, and he congratulated Bishop Ruwa’ichi for accepting the new appointment.

“It was not a small thing for Archbishop Ruwa’ichi to accept this new mission, so I am very grateful to him,” he said.

A coadjutor archbishop becomes head of an archdiocese upon the resignation or death of the current archbishop.
