KENYA: AMECEA Bishops Identify Twelve Areas of Interventions to Present at The Youth Synod
The Synod Preparatory Meeting of AMECEA Bishops held in Nairobi last week resolved that each of the twelve delegates from AMECEA Region would present an intervention at the Synod. According to Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Chimombo, Coordinator of AMECEA Pastoral Department, the delegates identified areas of interventions, having gone through the Working Document, Instrumentum Laboris, and prioritising elements that are relevant to AMECEA local context.
Among the areas of intervention, the Bishops have settled on Catechesis to counter the impact of religious fundamentalism and Pentecostalism; institutional vocational status of single persons with no particular consecration; training of Spiritual Directors; as well as formation for active citizenry in politics; dignity of women; and civil, social and political engagement.
Other areas of interventions include Integral education and formation in Catholic institutions; the digital world and its impact on young people; youth protagonism; uncertainty, hope, fear and unemployment; enjoyment and beauty of the liturgy; accompaniment in schools and universities; situations of war, violence and young migrants; the role of families and life choices; and formative and social accompaniment.
Fr. Chimombo further explained that all issues prioritized were singled out in reference to the specific numbers in the Instrumentum Laboris, as per requirements of the Synodal process. Issues of concern within the region which were not necessarily stressed within the Instrumentum Laboris are allocated to the Patrons of the AMECEA region, H.E. John Cardinal Njue and H.E. Berhaneyesus Cardinal D. Souraphiel, who are also part of the Synod delegation for the interventions.
The synod delegates from AMECEA Region include Rt. Rev. Fikre Mariam Hagos from Eritrea; H.E. Berhaneyesus Cardinal D. Souraphiel and Rt. Rev. Roberto Bergamaschi from Ethiopia; H.E. John Cardinal Njue, Most. Rev. Anthony Muheria and Rt. Rev. Maurice Muhatia from Kenya; Most Rev. Tarcisius G. Ziyaye, from Malawi; Rt. Rev. Eduardo Hiiboro from South Sudan; Rt. Rev. Paul Ssemogerere and Rt. Rev Damiano Giulio Guzzetti, M.C.C.I from Uganda; Rt. Rev. Desderius Rwoma and Rt. Rev. Renatus Leonard Nkwande, from Tanzania; and Rt. Rev. Valentine Kalumba, OMI from Zambia.
