SOUTH SUDAN: Government to decide on other options if peace talks fail

Government spokesperson Michael Makuei Lueth has revealed that, the government will decide on other options apart from elections if talks with the opposition groups in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia fail. However, speaking after the council of ministers meeting on Friday, he did not mention the other options to be decided upon.

According to report by Bakhita Radio, Makuei also said that the government is still focusing on the High-Level Revitalization Forum scheduled to take place this month adding that, last week, the government proposed change of the venue for the next round of the Revitalization Forum because of the political situation in Ethiopia.

He confirmed that, the government’s delegation is ready to travel to Ethiopia this month.

“The next round of the High-Level Revitalization Forum is expected to take place on April 26 in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa,” he said.

Meanwhile, German government commits to continue supporting South Sudan. Misereor, a Catholic Church organization in Germany pledges that its government will continue to support the suffering people of South Sudan.

Barbra Achirmel, Misereor representative helping the Catholic Diocese of Torit for more than ten years, said her organization mobilize funds from people of Germany to help the needy in South Sudan. “Love one another as a symbol of peace and unity,” she encourages south Sudanese.

Managing Director of Caritas Torit, William Okot De Toby, praised Misereor for standing in solidarity with the poor in the country adding that, the Catholic Diocese of Torit had built hospitals, schools including churches due to the support by the German organization. Okot advises South Sudanese to also love, support and care for each other.

The speakers made the remarks on Sunday during the mass at St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Torit.
