SOUTH SUDAN: Church urges government to utilize natural resources for development

The Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Torit has urged Torit government to make proper use of available resources to build up the State.

According to Emmanuel Radio, Monsignor Thomas Oliha Atiya noted that, improper use of resources lowers development pointing out that although logging of timber has been continuously carried out in the State, communities still lack schools, better roads among other facilities.

Msgr. Oliha who believes that Torit is the least develop state in South Sudan therefore called on the government to utilize the revenues collected for the development of the state.

Addressing the public during a public rally at Torit freedom square in Torit on 3rd, April, 2018, he however appreciated the state government for working hard in improving security situation in Torit.

Meanwhile a Ugandan human rights body has urged its South Sudan counterpart to work together to protect themselves and citizens during conflicts.

According to a report by Bakhita Radio, the human right body calls on the rights defenders in the country to cooperate in resolving challenges they face in their daily activities.

Speaking during a human rights workshop in Juba on 5th, April, 2018, Executive Director of Defend Defenders, Hassan Shire, stressed the need to train activists on safety to avoid risks.

Hassan says human rights groups have resources to change their abilities to defend other activists in South Sudan.
