ZAMBIA: Use Simple Language to Communicate Message of Laudato Si
Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) immediate former National Pastoral Coordinator has urged the Church in Zambia to use language that appeals to the people when popularising Laudato Si, Pope Francis’ encyclical on the care of our environment.
Fr. Charles Odira Kwanya has said that every clergy and other pastoral agents should use the language that is appealing to people and put messages into the context of the issues that people are facing regarding care of the environment.
He said the Church should enlighten people about the fact that the negative effects of climate change are not God’s doing but the works of man due to his/her failure to care for the environment. He further added that the Church should be active in helping address effects of climate change saying when society is affected the Church gets affected too.
“The Church must be part of global policies on environment. When these issues of climate change and other environmental matters affect society negatively, the Church gets affected. When the people fail to have a good harvest, the Church is affected,” he said.
Fr. Kwanya was speaking to Catholic Media Services (CMS) during Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) organised workshop for Pastoral agents on the care for the Environment in Lusaka.
The workshop was held at Kasisi Retreat Centre in Lusaka and closed on 23rd February 2017. It attracted the National Pastoral team, Diocesan Pastoral coordinators, Biblical, Catechetical and Liturgical Coordinators. Others were Co-opted resource persons and collaborators from all the dioceses in Zambia.
