TANZANIA: Cardinal Pengo Denies Allegations on Wealth of the Church.
The Archbishop of the Dar es Salaam H.E. Polycarp Cardinal Pengo has strongly denied the allegation made by other religions that the progress and affluence made in the Catholic Church in the country is reinforced by the government subsidies.
Speaking in Dar es salaam recently Cardinal Pengo said that, such kind of allegation and provocation may lead into religious detestation which is dangerous to the society.
Cardinal Pengo was responding to some allegation by other religions in the country that the prosperity in the Catholic Church is due to the support the Church has been receiving from the government.
“What I need to tell these people is that they should first investigate before they conclude on their hypothesis. There is no single truth in what is being alleged,” he said.
He emphasized that the Catholic Church has its own sources of earning money, including offerings of the faithful, which have been a springboard to continue with her mission without depending to other institutions. The Catholic Church has never received the money, nor asked for any monetary assistance from the government in order to realize its evangelization goals
“The church has various projects that have been sources of income and so help her to grow independently without relying on anything,” said Cardinal Pengo.
Cardinal Pengo urged the faithful to continue praying for the Church. “Let us pray also for the conversion of these people who raise false allegation against the church; let them learn from the Catholic Church on how independently you can run your activities and projects,” he said.
