TANZANIA: ‘Support the Govt in the fight against Corruption’ – Apostolic Nuncio
The outgoing Apostolic Nuncio to Tanzania, His Excellency Archbishop Francisco Padilla has asked the Catholic Church in the country to continue supporting the government in the fight against corruption in order to uphold the rule of law.
The Apostolic Nuncio was addressing the Bishops in the AMECEA Auditorium, at the Catholic Secretariat, Kurasini-Dare salaam during their plenary assembly held this week, where he used the opportunity to bid farewell to them.
He said that the present government led by His Excellency Dr John Pombe Magufuli is committed in the fight against corruption that aims at ensuring access to justice and equality to all people. “Likewise, the Catholic Church has to support these efforts in order to cherish the values of dignity, justice and peace in the country,” he said.
Furthermore, Bishop Padilla said that the fight against corruption requires concerted efforts between the government and various stakeholders, including the Catholic Church. He added that by doing so the Church will continue to be at the forefront in providing services to the community, for the welfare of all people in the country.
“Let the Catholic Church in the country continue to cooperate with the government in ensuring that the rule of law is maintained throughout the country, take the issues of justice and peace as matters of priority,” he said adding that “Continue to support the government also in the provision of various social services, like education, health and community development.”
