KENYA: ‘The Wait is Over, Let us receive Our Pope’ – KCCB

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops KCCB on Tuesday 24th
issued a statement inviting all Kenyans to honor Thursday 26th November
when the Holy Father Pope Francis celebrates his First Mass on the African continent
at the University of Nairobi grounds a day which has been declared by the
government a national day of prayer and reflection.
Pope Francis is expected to land at Jomo Kenyatta International
Airport around 17.00 will lead the Eucharistic Celebrations on Thursday, 26th
joined by Cardinals, Archbishops, and Bishops from several African countries.
Speaking on behalf of all the Catholic Bishops in the country, the
Chairman of KCCB and Rt Rev Phillip Anyolo said “For the past few weeks, many
of you have joined us in making preparations for the much-anticipated Apostolic
Visit by Pope Francis to our beloved Country Kenya and the African Continent;
we are pleased to announce that all the teams working towards a successful
visit have confirmed that they are ready.”
He said that the Catholic Church is committed to commune with
persons of all religions and of all social status, rich or poor and as a show
of this commitment, the Holy Father’s message of reconciliation, forgiveness
and peace will begin with the ecumenical and interreligious meeting on the
morning of 26th November at the Nunciature in Nairobi, with leaders
of Christian mainstream and evangelical churches, Muslims, Hindus and
traditional religions. He said that the theme of the meeting is “We
are one people, we worship one God, let us shape our destiny together as brothers
and sisters
.”
Vice chairman of KCCB Rt. Rev. Joseph Obala Owaa of Ngong Diocese
requested Kenyans to remain in the spirit of caring for one another as the
country welcomes Pope Francis. “Fellow Kenyans, we have been granted the
special gift by His Holiness Pope Francis, and with so many of our brothers and
sisters from neighboring African countries joining us on our national day of
prayer and reflection, we urge all Kenyans to come to Nairobi and join us on
the day of Pope Francis’ FIRST Papal Mass on the continent of Africa,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Bishops also lauded the government for making sure that all
logistics are in place and that the Holy Father will receive a befitting
welcome. The Bishops also thanked all the steering committees who worked
tirelessly to ensure that everything is in order.
