KENYA: Cardinal Njue appeals to Kenyans to Attend Papal Mass in Large Numbers

H.E. John Cardinal Njue
Archbishop of Nairobi H.E. John Cardinal Njue has appealed to Christians
and people of good will, from all over the Country to come out in large numbers
to participate in the Holy Mass to be presided over by the Holy Father Pope
Francis.
In a letter sent to all parishes of the Archdiocese of Nairobi,
Cardinal Njue urge all Priests and lay Church leaders to mobilize and join
other Catholic faithful from all over the Country in welcoming the Holy Father.
“All Kenyans and people of good will – irrespective of their
religion, age, colour or social status – are invited to attend the Papal Mass.
For this purpose, we are all encouraged to pull together and travel to Nairobi
in time for the Mass,” reads part of the letter.
Cardinal Njue also said that the Holy Father has expressed his
intention to meet as many Kenyans as possible during his visit and so he urged
Catholics and people of good will to come and meet him.
During his visit, the Pope will celebrate Holy Mass at the
University of Nairobi Grounds and hold meetings with the Youth at Moi
International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and Religious Men and Women from all
over Kenya at St. Mary’s School, Msongari.
Meanwhile the Parish Priest of St. Joseph
in Kangemi Slums where the Holy Father will visit has expressed immense
gratitude to the Holy Father for choosing to go to Kangemi. Fr. Paschal
Mwijage, SJ, said that the Pope has not chosen St. Joseph Kangemi because it is
run by the Jesuits but just out of sheer coincidence.
“I am feeling very blessed, very honored and graced by the visit
of the Holy Father and we are praying that the visit will go on well,” he said
adding that the papal visit to the slum Parish will energize the faithful and
help renew their faith.
