UGANDA: Delegation of Caritas Denmark visit UEC Secretariat for Experience sharing

A delegation representing several Catholic groups in Denmark on
Friday, 6th November visited the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) secretariat to
learn, share and enhance cooperation.
The delegation, which is led by officers from Caritas
Denmark, comprised of 12 people who arrived in the country on October 26, 2015.  The group visited different departments and
commissions at the UEC before paying a courtesy visit
to the office of the UEC Secretary General, Msgr. John Baptist Kauta.
“This
visit is very important to us because these people act as ambassadors of the
Christians back in Denmark,” said the president of Caritas Uganda, Msgr.
Francis Ndamira who is also the vice president of Caritas Africa.
“They
want to know what the head quarters of the Catholic Church do in terms of
development and when they go back, they can advocate for more funds for our
projects through Caritas Uganda.”
“Caritas
Denmark is our major sponsor thus, they were interested in knowing how we
organize ourselves, how we conduct advocacy programs and connect with the civil
society organizations and, how the funds that they send us are efficiently
used,” said Msgr. Ndamira.
According to Msgr. Ndamira Caritas Denmark began their
program with Caritas Uganda fifteen years ago but they intensified their
funding three years-ago after one of their Archbishop’s visited some of their
projects.
Earlier, the delegation visited the residence of the Archbishop
of Kampala, Most Rev. Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga and had a dinner with him. They
also visited various dioceses in the country where, they witnessed some of the
projects that they funded through Caritas
Uganda and its local partners to help communities improve their
livelihood and welfare through farming, education, proper nutrition, good
health and other programs such as good governance and climate change.
The delegation will also visit the Danish Ambassador’s residence
before their departure on November 10.
