ZAMBIA: ZEC Asked to help in ending Child Marriages in Zambia

The
Zambian Government through the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs has
invited the Zambia Episcopal Conference and other faith based organisations to
sit on a committee to end child marriages in Zambia.
The
Committee has been tasked to come up with a strategy to end child marriages. Making
the invitation Friday, 30th November, 2015, the National End Child Marriages
Coordinator Peter Mucheleka said that the Church is cardinal in the ending of
child marriages in Zambia.
“We
made an invitation to ZEC, and other faith based organisation so that they help
us in curbing child marriages. We shall be writing formally to you”, he said at
the Ending Child Marriages Coordinating Meeting, which was held in Lusaka,
Friday, 30th October, 2015.
Meanwhile
Zambia will, on November 26th to 27th, host the End Child
Marriages Summit in Lusaka.
The
Summit, which is supported by the African Union, will attract the participation
of Presidents, First ladies and other high level delegates from some of the
African countries.
