ZAMBIA: Italian Bishops Conference Supports the Renovation of Monze Mission Hospital’s Theatre

Rt Rev
Moses Hamungole
The Italian Catholic Bishops Conference (CEI)
has given a financial support to the Diocese of Monze for the renovation of ‘a
three in one Operating theatre’
Monze Mission hospital run by the Diocese.
The CEI supported the project to the tune of
46, 272 Euros while the Zambian government contributed about 45,000 US dollars.
The renovation works started in the year 2013.
Speaking on Tuesday 29th September, 2015 during
the commissioning of the Operating theatre, the Deputy Minister of Health Dr.
Chitalu Chilufya said that Monze Mission hospital is a strategic institution in
the health service delivery, not only for the people of Monze but the entire
Southern province region where it is located.
Meanwhile, the Catholic
Bishop of Monze Rt Rev Moses Hamungole, while thanking CEI and the government
for the support, made an appeal to the government to intervene in the statutory
instrument number 103 of the laws of Zambia which requires Church organizations
pay taxes and other duties for goods imported in the country.
“Most of the goods the Church receives from
abroad are donations and thus are meant for the reduction of the running
expenses and improvement of both social and pastoral services to the people;
mainly the marginalized of the society,” he said.
