H.E. Berhaneyesus Cardinal Souraphiel, MC
The Chancellor
of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and Metropolitan Archbishop of
Addis Ababa Ethiopia H.E. Berhaneyesus Cardinal Souraphiel, MC, has called upon
families to embrace love, unity and service to one another in order to avert
the numerous challenges facing the family institution in the world today.
“What
matters in family is not the amount of wealth and resources people have that
make them live comfortably, but love and unity among family members. The love
shown between parents and children and between husbands and wives is what is
needed,’ said Cardinal Berhaneyesus in his homily during the thanksgiving Mass
for the for 32nd graduation ceremony at the Catholic University of
Eastern Africa (CUEA).
Cardinal
Berhaneyesus who is the Chairman of AMECEA is bringing the theme of the family
ahead of the 14th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops
to be held in Rome from Sunday 4th to 25th October 2015;
on which he is going to attend as a special appointee of the Holy Father.
“When
fathers are simple and humble, they are able to bring the family together and
keep it united. Likewise when mothers are simple and humble, they become a
great example to their children and the entire family,” he said adding that the
family is threatened by so many challenges in the world today and therefore it
is a great blessing that the Holy Father Pope Francis has dedicated the coming
synod to deliberate on the vocation and mission of the family in the Church and
in the contemporary world.
Meanwhile, the Cardinal also called upon
everyone to continue with the Mission of the Holy Father on Care for our
environment.
