UGANDA: Pope Francis to lead the Golden Jubilee of Uganda Martyrs Celebrations

The Holy Father,
Fr. Pope Francis will be the main celebrant during the Eucharistic Celebrations
to Mark the Golden Jubilee of the Canonization of the Uganda Martyrs.
In a press
statement issued on 18th September 2015 by UEC and signed by the
President of the Conference and the Archbishop of Gulu, Most Rev John Baptist
Odama; Ugandan Bishops expressed their gratitude to
the Holy Father for honoring their invitation to visit Uganda and celebrate the
Golden Jubilee of the Canonization of the 22 Catholic Ugandan Martyrs.
The
Conference had postponed the celebrations, which were scheduled for 18th

“The Holy
Father is coming to visit us as a shepherd of God’s flock, to strengthen our
faith and encourage us as we seek to relive the martyrdom of our ancestors in
the faith through self-sacrifice for the good of others,” read the statement.
It also
indicated that the preparations for the visit are being coordinated by the
Uganda Episcopal Conference with the support of Ugandan government. The
Conference will soon publish a pastoral letter to guide the faithful and all people
of good will in their spiritual preparation for the event.
Pope Francis
will visit Kenya from 25 to 27 November 2015 and Uganda from 27 to 29 November.
Pope Francis will also visit the Central African Republic from 29 to 30
November 2015.
