KENYA: Daystar University Promotes Catholic Nun to the Post of Associate Professor in Communication

promoted a Catholic Nun to the post of Associate Professor in Communications.
Sr. Agnes Lucy Lando was among three senior lecturers that were interviewed and
elevated.
Between June
1999 and May 2000 Rev. Sr. Agnes Lucy Lando was Secretary of Communications
Department at AMECEA Secretariat in Nairobi
Sr. Prof.
Agnes Lucy Lando obtained her PhD in Social Communication from the Pontifical
Gregorian University, Rome, in April 2008. “As I give thanks and glory to God
for thus far He has brought me, I’m praying and asking Him that He grants me
the grace of humility and deep love for the church so that I may use the
position and opportunity to love and serve Him more dedicatedly, amidst the
various challenges that come with the title,” said Sr. Lando.
She joined
Daystar University in August 2008, and is also the Assistant Head of
Communication Department. Among the courses she teaches are Doctoral Colloquium,
Communication and Media Theory, Communication Ethics, Crisis Communication,
Media Management, Advanced Audio-Visual Productions, Human Communication and
Intercultural Communication.
“One of my
greatest joys is to see my colleagues and students grow to my level or even
surpass me. That’s why I enjoy academic mentoring and guiding students and
emerging scholars to write academic papers and make presentations of the same
in reputable national, regional and international academic conferences,” said Sr.
Prof. Lando.
Sr. Prof. Lando
is a perpetually professed member of the institute of the Sisters of Mary of
Kakamega. “This is very significant for me. I love my vocation and that’s why
my first title is sister. I know that I’m in Daystar University as a Sister
Professor. And thus a lot more is expected of me.”
Between 2009
and 2013, Sr. Lando was the director of Ukweli Video Production, a non-profit
Faith Based media production center founded in May 1981 as one of the first
Christian professional centers in Africa by a Maryknoll Missioner, Fr. J.
Richard Quinn.

Production is currently under Waumini Communications Limited of the Kenya
Conference of Catholic Bishops KCCB.
