AMECEA to Hold Capacity Building workshop for ZEC

Capacity Building project is scheduled to hold a training workshop for top
management team of Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) at Kasisi Retreat Center
in Lusaka from 1st to 4th September 2015.
The training
is expected to bring 40 participants from the 11 Catholic Dioceses in the
country.
Lecturers
from the Zambia Catholic University (ZCU) and a team from the AMECEA
Secretariat/CUEA will facilitate the training program. Among the topics to be
covered include Leadership and Management in Church Institutions; Human
Resource Management; Strategic Pastoral Planning; Investment in Church
Institutions; Conflict Resolution; Entrepreneurship and Pastoral Communication.
Each
Arch/Diocese is expected to send four participants, including the following or
their representatives: Vicar General, Treasurer or Procurator General, Pastoral
Coordinator, and Bishop’s or Administrative Secretary.
So far,
AMECEA has done similar capacity building training to all other AMECEA
Conferences except ZEC and Eritrea.
According to
Ms. Christine Mbugi, coordinator of the program, the possibility of conducting
a similar training to Eritrean Conference will be discussed at a meeting
between Vice Chancellors of Catholic Universities from AMECEA Conferences,
Secretaries General from AMECEA Conferences and the AMECEA Secretariat. The
meeting is scheduled for 7th – 10th October 2015 in Addis
Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Key
benefits of this Capacity Building program which is supported by the United
States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) includes supporting the Bishops
in capacity building to establish and maintain an effect, diverse and motivated
workforce at diocese level to ensure excellence in support of the region’s
pastoral outreach by empowering all the parts of the region.
Other
benefits include building capacities in leadership and management across the
dioceses/jurisdictions of the Church in the conferences, thus strengthening
their professionalism, in leadership and communication skills and also to
create some kind of uniformity in the management of Institutions and affairs of
the Church Institutions within the region as well as pooling of resources for
income generating projects.
