Rt. Rev. Alick Banda
Bishop of Ndola

 The Catholic
Diocese of Ndola has expressed immense gratitude to the Catholic Diocese of
Limburg in Germany for its effort to ensure that the body of the young Zambian
lady, who drowned in the sea in Holland, was brought back home for burial in
Zambia.
Speaking to AMECEA Online News on phone from Zambia,
the Bishop of Ndola, Rt. Rev. Alick Banda said that the Diocese of Ndola has
built a relationship of friendship and partnership with the Diocese of Limburg
for the last 32-33 year.
“We started
this program of sending young people there for internship and volunteer studying.
In a reciprocal manner, were have been having young people from Germany who
come to have an experience in our Diocese in Zambia,” he said adding that it was
through this partnership as well as volunteer service, that the young Zambian
Jessica Phiri, a trainee journalist at Ndola Diocese’s Radio Icengelo was sent
to Germany.
“While in
Germany her period was coming to an end as she was due to return to Zambia in
September. The headmistress of the kindergarten school where she volunteered
asked her what she wished to do before returning home and she said she wanted
to go on vacation in Holland.” Bishop Banda explained adding that tragically while
at the beach playing in water, the tides came and swept her.
According to
Bishop Banda, the young girl died on Wednesday 5th August 2015 and
immediately an intensive search was mounted for her but yielded no fruit. Her
body washed ashore near the City of Hague on Saturday 8th August,
2015.
