Zambia Episcopal
Conference (ZEC) has made an appeal to all Zambians and other people of good will to
assist in the completion of Cardinal Adam Memorial Hospital in Lusaka.

ZEC Bishop Director for
Health Rt Rev George Lungu made this appeal during the fundraising dinner held
on Saturday July 17, 2015 at the TAZ Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka, Zambia. “ I am
asking everybody to come forth and give us something for the completion of the
project as soon as possible,” he said.

According to ZEC, once completed,
Cardinal Adam Memorial Hospital will have a larger admission ward, a theatre, a
maternity ward and will be providing services in specialist treatment for
people who may not manage to get specialist treatment abroad.

Meanwhile speaking at the same function, Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) Vice
president Bishop Alick Banda reiterated ZEC’s pledge to continue the healing
ministry through its hospitals as mandated by Jesus Christ to his disciples.

“Cardinal Adam Memorial hospital is a statement of our resolve and commitment
to respond to the call of our Lord Jesus Christ when he sent his disciples to
heal the sick,” Bishop Banda said.

Bishop Banda noted that since
the arrival of the missionaries in 1891, the Catholic Church has always
continued the healing ministry started by Jesus Christ through its hospitals,
rural health centres as well as hospices situated throughout the country.

“Through Cardinal Adam Memorial hospital, the public will appreciate that the
Catholic Church in Zambia will continue to reach out to the poor as well as the
vulnerable in society especially those who are sick and need the healing of the
body and mind and soul,” Bishop Banda.

Speaking at the event on behalf of President
His Excellency Edgar Lungu, the Minister of Health Dr. Joseph Kasonde
acknowledged the role played by the Church in providing health care to the
people of Zambia.

He praised the Catholic Church for
complimenting government’s efforts in the health care provision to the people
of Zambia.
