Ms. Christine Mbugi,
 Coordinator AMECEA
 Capacity Building Project

AMECEA
Capacity Building Program is set to roll out the next phase of the program in
2016, an agreement that came out after a successful joint meeting between
AMECEA Secretariat, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and
the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) held at the Secretariat
offices on 6th July 2015.
The meeting
was attended by Mr. Fritz Zuger and Mr. Patrick Markey, both from the National Collection
Office of USCCB, AMECEA Secretariat Staff led by AMECEA Secretary General Rev.
Fr. Ferdinand Lugonzo, and a team from CUEA led by the Vice Chancellor Msgr.
Pius Rutechura.
According to
the Programs Coordinator, Ms. Christine Mbugi, the meeting has been organized
in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia between 7th and 10th October,
2015 where Secretaries General from AMECEA Conferences, the team from CUEA,
Vice Chancellors of the Catholic Universities in AMECEA Region, together with
the Coordinator of AMECEA Capacity Building, will deliberate on how to go about
the Second Phase of the program.
“During the
October meeting, the Secretaries General, the CUEA Team and the Vice Chancellors
will be able to pick one of the four remaining priority areas identified by the
AMECEA Bishops during the needs assessment workshop held in Uganda in 2009,”
Ms. Mbugi said.
The four
remaining areas include Youth Ministry and Chaplaincy, Information Technology
and Communications, Planning and Methods of Fundraising and finally Project
Management and Skills for Designing Strategic Pastoral Planning. Leadership and
Management have been covered except in Eritrea and Zambia which are scheduled
to benefit soon.
The Course
outline for the training will then be designed once the choice of the priority
area has been made and this will consequently determine the schedule of the Second
Phase of the program.
Mbugi also
said that during the October meeting, a link person will be identified from all
the Catholic Universities and Episcopal Conference in the AMECEA Region in
order to create an easy and collaborative coordination of the program.
“CUEA still
remains the lead University for the project while other Catholic Universities
in AMECEA Region will also be included in the implementation,” Mbugi said.
