AMECEA: Choose Life, Not Death – Cardinal Berhaneyesus
The
Chancellor of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), His Eminence
Berhaneyesus D. Cardinal Souraphiel has asked the graduates to choose life
instead of nurturing the culture of death which is now growing in our society.

May 2015 at CUEA, Langata Campus, in Nairobi.

said that the Catholic Church is known worldwide as an institution committed to
the defense of human life and standing for promotion of the dignity of human
person, which has been the hallmark of its mission.

is the gift of God and no one has a right to destroy it, whether it is the form
of abortion or euthanasia,” he said. He further said, “That is why the Catholic
Church is against death penalty; simply because it does not give a chance for
someone to be converted.”

Berhaneyesus referred to the Garisa University attack which killed 147 people by
al shabaab and some of the immigrants who were killed by Extremists and those
dying when crossing the Mediterranean to go to Europe. “When we heard the
incidences, we were very sad. It does not appeal to our minds that some people
take authority over human being’s life in the name of religion,” he said.

the degrees and diplomas to the graduates.
