Catholic
students drawn from both private and public universities from across the
country have expressed their concern that the absence of formidable Catholic
Chaplaincies in the universities and other institutions of higher learning is
negatively affecting faith formation among the young people.

Students on “Building Christian Fellowship in Institutions of Learning through Small
Christian Communities (SCCs) organized by AMECEA Pastoral Department in
collaborating with Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) in Nairobi.

Students on “Building Christian Fellowship in Institutions of Learning through Small
Christian Communities (SCCs) organized by AMECEA Pastoral Department in
collaborating with Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) in Nairobi.

which began on Thursday 21st May, is expected to end on Sunday 24th
by the celebration of Holy Mass of the Feast of Pentecost.

During the
workshop the students passionately appealed to Kenyan Bishops to consider
accompaniment of students through chaplaincy in Universities and institutions
of higher learning and make it a priority.

Speaking at
the same function, Kenyatta University Catholic Chaplain Fr. Lance P. Nadeau,
MM said that the Catholic Bishops in Kenya need to do more on chaplaincy in the
universities and institute of higher learning in the country.

can think of chaplaincy and serve students, you need to prepare personnel, in
this case priests and then other facilities,” said Fr. Lance.

According to
Fr. Febian Pikiti Mulenga, the Coordinator of AMECEA Pastoral Department, the
objective of the workshop is to share experience on chaplaincy and Christian
Fellowship among Catholics students in Universities and Institutions of higher learning
with a view of promoting SCCs and to reflect on how SCCs can grow in these
institutions of learning.
