SOUTH SUDAN: Peace Promoters urged to read Bishop Tutu’s Book on Forgiveness

Volunteers Preparing to deliver Books

Peace workers across South Sudan have been given a “Book of forgiving” written by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter, to read in order to enhance their skills on the promoting peace and reconciliation in the country
South Sudan Women United, a US based organization that gathers
South Sudanese women across the world, leads the initiative and counts on a
group of volunteers to deliver 2000 copies of the book to key peace promoters
such as religious leaders from different Christian denominations, members of
religious congregations, pastoral agents and members of local civil society
organizations.
The initiative was planned after the leadership of the
organization realized the positive effects the book had in other parts of the
world and is inspired at Tutu’s Global Forgiveness Challenge, a worldwide
campaign to promote forgiveness as a means to reach peace.
South Sudan Women United volunteers are reaching key people in the
country with the book and showing them how to use the book for their peace,
healing and reconciliation work.
Leaders and community members are invited to read the book as
individuals and as groups, and to use the book as a starting point for
discussion and ignite healing processes.
The book explains the path people shall follow to reconcile with
themselves and the others and comes with a vivid encouragement to put its
teaching into practice and to share and avail the book for reading to any
interested person.
One of the volunteers shares her experience as a reader and
explains how the book changed her life. She says reading the book helped her
start a journey towards internal healing that allowed her to overcome the anger
for the past and present conflicts in the country and to be open to help others
to heal and forgive.
The distribution started on May 6th and is expected to
be concluded in a couple of weeks.
Copies of the book are also being delivered to the office of South
Sudan president, vice president and other local authorities.
