TANZANIA: Pope Francis Appoints New Bishop of Singida Diocese

The Holy
Father Pope Francis on 28/04/2015 has appointed Rev. Fr. Edward Mapunda as Bishop
of Singida, Tanzania. 

 
Information
released by Press Office of the Holy See stated that the bishop-elect was born
in Mango, Tanzania in 1964, and was ordained a priest in 1997. He holds a
Master’s degree in education from the University of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania and
has served as formator and subsequently vice-rector of the minor seminary of Singida.
He is currently bursar and diocesan delegate for health.
 
According to
the Vatican statistics Diocese of Singida has a population 1,500,000, whereby
238,307 of them are Catholics.  
 
The diocese has been vacant since 15 January 2013 when Bishop Désiderius M. Rwoma was transferred to Bukoba Diocese as new Bishop.
