Catholic Media houses in Malawi have been applauded
for their contribution which led to the success of the fund raising event of
Kachebele Major seminary held at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) on
24 April 2015.

Speaking at
the Fund raising event, the Chairman for the Episcopal Conference of Malawi
(ECM), His Grace Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa of Blantyre Archdiocese commended
the roles played by the catholic Media by running free adverts for the event
which led to the large turnout in the event; and above all for the free air
time broadcasting the event during the fundraising day.

The
commended Catholic media houses include Radio Maria, Radio Tigabane, Tuntufye
Radio and Luntha Television.

Archbishop
Msusa also commended the roles played by the Catholic laity in Malawi not only
in the fundraising events but in supporting other church activities as well
through their various initiatives which are well organized and patronized at
the same time.

Archbishop
Msusa recalled the success of the 18th AMECEA Plenary held in Malawi
last year which was basically their contribution. He said Malawi managed to
host a successful and historical AMECEA Plenary last year because there was
proper collaboration between all stakeholders including the laity hence a
challenge for a continued support to the Church-more particularly during this
year’s Platinum Jubilee for Kachebele Seminary. “On behalf of my fellow Bishops
and indeed on my own behalf, I would like to thank you all for supporting the
Church in various ways,” he said.

Speaking at
the same function, His Lordship Bishop Martin Mtumbuka of Karonga diocese and
also Chairman for Seminaries at the Episcopal Conference of Malawi said
Kachebere Major Seminary which is also known as St. Anthony Seminary is facing
numerous challenges ranging from renovations to the school’s structures and seminarian’s
welfare among others.

Bishop
Mtumbuka, however warned the Seminarians of not taking for granted every single
assistance that the Church through it laity renders to the Seminary.

“I would
like to warn you Seminarians never take the support from the faithful and
people of goodwill for granted. It’s high time you become serious with your
vocation. The laity out there would not want to have priests who are
irresponsible when you finish up your studies,” Bishop Mtumbuka sounded the
warning to a representative of Seminarians who witnessed the dinner and dance
event.

Present at
the event was the Vice President of Malawi, Hon Saulos Chilima and all the Catholic
Bishops of Malawi.
