Fr. Celestino Bundi Director PMS-KCCB

African
National Directors of Pontifical Mission Societies drawn from Kenya, Ethiopia,
Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Nigeria gathered at St. Vincent Pallotti
Pastoral Centre, in Kigali Rwanda from 22nd – 25th February
2015 to discuss “How to feed the world Hungry” in response to the
call made by Pope Francis in November 2013 while addressing the 2nd International
FAO Conference in Italy.
According to
Rev. Fr. Celestino Bundi, the Kenya National Director of the Pontifical Mission
Society who was one of the participants said the meeting resolved to exploit
idle land owned by Catholic Church in Arch/Dioceses, Congregations and major
Seminaries for food production.
Fr. Bundi
said the agricultural initiative is aimed at making the Church self-reliant,
reduce hunger and create mutual sharing between the “haves” and
” have nots” in the World.
Earlier on,
according to Zenit news, Pope Francis said that defeating world hunger will
require more than aid and donations. Instead, we must “change the paradigm of
aid and development policies” and change “how we understand work, economic aims
and activity, food production and the protection of the environment.”
The meeting
was organized by the Pontifical Mission Societies Office, USA and facilitated
by PMS National Director, Rev. Fr. Andrew Small, two Consultants Dr. Lisa Smith
and Mr. Jacques Delli Paoli.
