KENYA: Cardinal Njue Tells Christian Proffessionals not to Shy Away from Politics

H.E. John Cardinal Njue,
Archbishop of Nairobi
The Chairman of the
Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, (KCCB) H.E. John Cardinal Njue, wants young
Christian professionals to ‘intentionally and purposefully’ spread their influence
in politics, economics and morality in the society.
Addressing the Christian
professionals at a breakfast prayer meeting organised by the Kenya Christian
Professionals Forum (KCPF) at the Holy Family Minor Basilica Hall, on Saturday
January 31, 2015, Cardinal Njue told them not to shy away from politics, saying
this way, they would give the country the much needed sense of direction.
“We have to
deliberately ensure that our Christian faith interracts with the political and
social functions by speaking to issues that arise with the political and social
functions,” said Cardinal Njue.
Christian
professionals, he said, must actively get involved in the daily social life of
the country, national decision-making processes and politics while still living
in accordance with their Christian calling. Their careers, he emphasised, were
not just professions, but a calling to serve.
“This in my view is
the best way to morally and politically secure the future of our beloved
Country Kenya,” he said.
He commended the
Kenya Christian Professionals Forum for always speaking out especially on
issues threatening the family, which he described as the basic unit of the society.
“I am honoured and
encouraged to see young Christian professionals ready to profess their faith in
their daily lives and professions: more so in Kenya today when Christianity is
facing challenges. Your Christian commitment gives me great pride and a lot of hope,”
said the Cardinal.
He called on the
Christian professionals to engage political leaders and the youth in Kenya,  and teach them to appreciate the importance of
humility and good character as opposed to money or power.
The Cardinal
rallied the young professional to see the difficult moments that the country is
facing as an opportunity to reclaim Christian values in all the society.
The Kenya Christian Professionals Forum (KCPF) is a group of
Christian professionals from various denominations sharing common values on
issues of family, life and religious freedom and social justice.
