ETHIOPIA: Cardinal Designate Berhaneyesus Asks the Faithful to Accompany him with Prayer

H.E. Berhaneyesus D. Souraphiel,
 Archbishop of Addis Ababa

Cardinal
designate H.E Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel has asked the faithful in Ethiopia
to accompany him with prayer as he is going Rome for the installation event.

The
Cardinal designate was speaking during the send-off event organized by the
Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat, before he left for Rome on the midnight of February
4, 2015.
At
the event H.E. Berhaneyesus, who is also the Chairman of AMECEA said, “When a person is given such great
responsibility it is to serve people, therefore I ask you to pray for me so
that I may have the wisdom to carry out my responsibility well,” he said adding
that “This is an opportunity for the Church in Ethiopia to strengthen her
efforts of achieving integral human development even more.”
He
also called on all religious leaders in Ethiopia to work hard and pray for
peace and coexistence saying, “Peace must be nurtured in all of us.”

Members
of the laity assured him of their support and prayers throughout his journey as
a Cardinal. At the event a prayer for travelers was recited by all participants
together.
The
send-off event was also attended by Rt Rev. Weldetinsae, Bishop of Harar, Rt
Rev. Lisanu-Christos, Bishop of Bahirdar-Dessie; Megabi Zerihun Degu, Secretary
General of Inter-Religious Council in Ethiopia, representatives of various
Church structures, partners, and invited guests.
Speaking
at the event Megabi Zerihun Degu, Secretary General of Inter-Religious Council
in Ethiopia said that the nomination is the fruit of Cardinal Designate
Berhaneyesus’ and the Catholic Church’s effort for peace and development in the
country.
The
Cardinal Designate imparted his blessing on the participants and the
celebration closed with a reception organized for the event.
