MALAWI: Kachebere Major Seminary Inaugurates the Diamond Jubilee Year

Kachebere Major Seminary in
Malawi, on Saturday, 10th
January, 2015 will officiate the inauguration of the Jubilee Year, by the celebration of the Eucharist
that will be led by Rt Rev Martin Mtumbuka, Bishop of Karonga Diocese who is
also Bishop Chairman for Seminaries.
Seminary buildings
The Seminary, also known as ‘St.
Anthony Major Seminary’; a philosophical college under the Episcopal Conference
of Malawi, opened its doors on 10th October 1939 and has thus,
clocked 75 years of its existence. 
Information received from the
Catholic Secretariat of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) stated that the
Jubilee year commences on 10th January 2015 and will run until 10th
October 2015.
According to Chairperson for the
Jubilee Committee Fr George Nyanga several activities are expected to be
carried out within this Jubilee year. “These include: pilgrimage to the
seminary; workshops and seminars on the Catholic Church teachings, fundraising
events, Eucharist celebrations and kick start of development projects that will
aid the seminary in income generating activities for self-sustainability,” he
said.
“We expect all those people who
have gone through this seminary to take part in the planned activities,” he
said adding that “Similarly, as we aware that our Christians in one way or
another have been beneficiaries of the seminary; we do expect them to be part
of the activities of this jubilee year.” 
The Jubilee committee through its
fundraising programme already held a fundraising braai in November, 2014 and
will be having first Fundraising Dinner and Dance on 31st January,
2015 at Bingu International Conference Centre.
The seminary which serves as a
regional seminary it once received seminarian from the Northern part of Zambia
by then known as Northern Rhodesia.
