KENYA: Archbishop of Mombasa Appointed

Most Rev. Martin Kivuva, 
Archbishop elect for Mombasa

The Holy
Father Pope Francis has on 9th December 2014 appointed the Bishop of Machakos,
Rt. Rev. Martin Kivuva Musonde as the new Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of
Mombasa.

Most Rev. Martin Kivuva Musonde, 62, who is
also the Chairman of the KCCB – Commission for Social Communications, was born on 10th February 1952. He was
ordained priest on 9th December 1978 and installed Bishop of Machakos on 9th
June 2003.

Archbishop
Kivuva replaces the late Archbishop Boniface Lele who retired on 1st November
2013 on health grounds and who passed away on 9th April 2014 aged 67.

The
Archdiocese of Mombasa has been under the care of the Bishop of Malindi, Rt.
Rev. Emmanuel Barbara OFM Cap, who has been serving as the Apostolic
Administrator since his appointment by the Holy Father on 2nd
November 2013.
