TANZANIA: The Interim Executive Committee Elected for COLEA

The AMECEA
Pastoral Department’s workshop to revive the Council of Laity for Eastern
Africa (COLEA), which was held in Dar-es-Salaam Tanzania from 25th
to 29th November, 2014 elected an Interim Executive Committee.
The Interim
Executive Committee members are comprised of representatives from the AMECEA
Countries. They included Mr. Peter Kasenene from Uganda, Ms. Hanna Mehery from
Eritrea, Ms, Annie Mikobi from Djibouti, Mr. Abel Muse from Ethiopia, Mr.
Cyprian Okuse from South Sudan and Mr. Elias Lazaro from Malawi.
Other
members include Mr. Emil Hagam from Tanzania, Mr. James Mwai from Kenya, and
Mr. John Kangwa from Zambia and Ms. Joyce Zako from Uganda who is the
youth representative.
The Interim
Executive Committee later on elected Mr. Peter Kasenene as the Chairperson, Mr.
Emil Hagam as the Vice Chairperson, Ms. Annie Mikobi as the Secretary and Ms.
Joyce Zako as Vice Secretary.
The mandate of
the Executive interim committee is to work on the proposed amendments to the
constitution of COLEA within a period of six months; research on what led to
the malfunction of COLEA and compile a proposed document that will be presented
to the Bishop concerning the way forward.
The proposed
document which will be presented to the Bishop must clearly state the vision,
mission, objectives and goal of COLEA. It must also give reason for the death
of COLEA and explain why it should be revived. The document must also describe
the sustainability of COLEA as well as propose specific areas of collaborations
among COLEA members.
In the
meantime AMECEA Pastoral Coordinator Fr. Febian Pikiti has submitted the names
of the Interim Committee Members to the AMECEA Secretary General together with
the terms of reference.
This will
later be presented to the AMECEA Executive Board for Approval.
