TANZANIA: A New Metropolitan Created; An Archbishop Appointed

Archbishop Elect of Dodoma
Pope Francis on
November 6, 2014, created a new Metropolitan in Tanzania by elevating the
diocese of Dodoma, to the status of Metropolitan Archdiocese while also
appointing Rt. Rev Beatus Kinyaiya, O.F.M. Cap; Bishop of Mbulu diocese, to be
the first Archbishop of the Archdiocese.
 

Archdiocese of Dodoma
becomes the 6th Metropolitan Archdiocese in the country. Other
Archdioceses include Dar es Salaam, Tabora, Arusha, Songea and Mwanza.
The metropolitan Archdiocese
of Dodoma includes Singida, and Kondoa as suffragan dicoeses. Before its
creation diocese of Dodoma was a suffragan diocese of the metropolitan of Dar-es-Salaam,
which also covers Tanga, Morogoro, Mahenge, Ifakara and Zanzibar.
Speaking to Kiongozi Newspaper of Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), the Archbishop Elect said that he is grateful to the Holy Father for the Appointment. “I feel challenged that I have to move from one place to another, but as a shepherd I am willing to serve anywhere, “he said.
 
The new Archbishop of Dodoma, Beatus Kinyaiya, OFM Cap., was born on 9
May 1957 in the Diocese of Moshi. He made his perpetual profession as a Capuchin, in 1988 and was
ordained priest on 25 June 1989. From 1999 to 2005, he was the Provincial
Superior for Tanzania and President of the Capuchin Superiors Major of EACC.
