TANZANIA: Diocese of Mahenge Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The
Diocese of Mahenge, on 30th October 2014, celebrated the 50th Anniversary
(Golden Jubilee) since it was established. The climax of the event was marked
by the celebration of the Holy Mass led by the Apostolic Nuncio to Tanzania,
Most Rev Francesco Padilla, and was attended by a number of Bishops, Priests
and hundreds of faithful from within and outside the diocese. The Holy Mass was
held on the grounds of the Christ the King Cathedral, Kwiro.
Speaking
to the audience before the Holy Mass, Bishop Agapiti Ndorobo of Mahenge Diocese
invited   the people present to join the
people of Mahenge diocese in thanking God for the gift of faith that was
planted by the missionaries. The Diocese of Mahenge was separated from Dar es
Salaam on 1st July 1964.
Delivering
a message of the Holy Father, the Apostolic Nuncio said that Pope Francis wants
the people of Mahenge to realize the significance of their faith while
celebrating this golden Jubilee. They were encouraged to make their faith
become their identity through baptism so that everybody lives in truth, peace,
forgiveness and love.

“The
way you have been evangelized by the missionaries, is the same way you are now
sent to evangelize; -Go and become good catalysts of faith and forgiveness to
the society,” stated the message. The Nuncio went on to say that “The 50th
anniversary celebration should not end up by that celebration but should be the
new beginning of cherishing love to the generation to come.”
Speaking
at the event on behalf of Rt. Rev Tarcisio Ngalalekumtwa, the President of the
Tanzania Episcopal conference (TEC), the Archbishop of Songea, Most Rev Damian
Dallu congratulated Diocese of Mahenge for the event and above all for
rendering health and educational services without discrimination.  “Rendering Social service should be part and
parcel of our mission and should be given without discrimination or
reservation,” he said.
The
event was also attended by government and parties leaders.
