ETHIOPIA: Diocesan Directors visit the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam

The Great Renaissance Dam

 Since
Ethiopia announced the construction of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in
Guba, Benshangul Gumuz Regional State, Ethiopians in all parts of the country
and in the Diaspora have been regularly contributing for the success of the
project.
The
Ethiopian Catholic Church based on the instruction of the Bishop’s Conference of
Ethiopia has also been doing her part not only financially but also through
motivating the public to take part in the Dam along with other religious denominations.
Diocesan Directors at the Great Renaissance Dam
The
Ethiopian Catholic Church Diocesan Directors during their 11th
learning alliance visited the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in Guba,
Benshangul Gumuz Regional State. According to Rev.Fr.Hagos Hayish, CM, Secretary
General of the Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat, the visit has allowed the Directors
a visual confirmation to what they have been following in the media.
“Seeing
firsthand what is going on here at the construction site would allow us to
further implement the direction received from the Bishops’ Conference in
regards to the Dam and also to inform our faithful about its progress,” Fr.
Hagos said adding that the directors during their visit made a donation of Birr
100,000 to the Dam.
The 11th
Diocesan Directors Learning Alliance which was hosted by the Vicariate of
Nekemtdiscussed among other things the reporting of activities of their various
departments as the end of the year is approaching. They also deliberated about
the Golden Jubileecelebrations of the establishment of the Ethiopian Catholic
Bishops’ Conference (ECBC); this was presented by Rev. Fr. HailegabrielMeleku,
National Pastoral Coordinator. Fr. Hailegabriel informed the directors the role
of each diocese in the celebration.
The Golden
Jubilee of ECBC celebration officially began on 27th April 2014 and
will close on 26th July 2015
