AMECEA: CUEA Council Elects Chairmen of Committees

University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) Council on Tuesday 20th 2014 elected
Bishop Chairmen for the three major committees that oversee all the activities
of the university during the university council meeting, which was taking place
for the first time after the 18th AMECEA Plenary Assembly.

The three
committees include Finance, Staffing and Planning and development on which Bishop
Alick Banda, the vice chairman of the council; was also elected the chairman of
finance committee. Bishop Banda takes over from Rt. Rev Sabino Ocan Odoki, of
Arua Diocese (Uganda) who was elected member of the planning and
development committee.
Planning and development Committee is chaired by the University Vice Chancellor Msgr. Pius Rutechura. Also in this committee is Prof. Charles Olweny who is the vice chancellor
of Uganda Martyrs University.

Rt. Rev.
Bernadini Mfumbusa of Kondoa, (Tanzania) was elected chairman of Staffing
committee which oversees the recruitment of new staff as well as staff welfare
among other things at the university. Bishop Mfumbusa takes over from Rt. Rev.
Abraham Desta of Meki (Ethiopia).
Bishops elected in the meeting include Bishop Maurice Anthony Crowley, S.P.S.
of Kitale Diocese, (Kenya), as a member of the staffing committee, while Bishop
Abraham Desta of Apostolic Vicariate of Meki (Ethiopia) and Bishop Martin
Mtumbuka of Karonga, (Malawi) members of the Finance Committee.
Conference forwarded the names of their representatives to the council. Both
reconfirmed the names of the Bishops who were in the previous council. These
are Rt. Rev. Menghesteab Tesfamariam, M.C.C.I., Bishop of Asmara, (Eritrea) and
Rt. Rev. Macram Max Gassis, Bishop Emeritus of El Obeid, (Sudan).
Maurice Anthony Crowley, S.P.S. of Kitale Diocese, Kenya was also confirmed as
the Conference representative to the CUEA Council.
