VATICAN: Seven AMECEA Members to Attend the Upcoming Synod of Bishops

Vatican has
released on Tuesday 9th September 2014 a list of upcoming Synod of
Bishops on marriage and the family delegates, which included 7 Bishops from
AMECEA member countries.

AMECEA delegates
to the synod include; His Eminence Gabriel Cardinal ZUBEIR WAKO, Archbishop of
Khartoum (Sudan); His Eminence John Cardinal NJUE, Archbishop of Nairobi
(Kenya); Most Rev Berhaneyesus Demerew SOURAPHIEL, C.M. Archbishop of Addis Ababa
(Ethiopia), AMECEA Chairman; President of the Council of the Ethiopian Church
and President of the Assembly of Catholic Hierarchs of Ethiopia and Eritrea;
Most Rev John Baptist ODAMA, Archbishop of Gulu (Uganda); Most Rev. Ignatius
CHAMA, Archbishop of Kasama, and Apostolic Administrator “sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis” of Mpika (Zambia); Rt Rev Tarcisius
NGALALEKUMTWA, Bishop of Iringa (Tanzania); and Rt. Rev Joseph Mukasa ZUZA,
Bishop of Mzuzu Diocese (Malawi);
HE Gabriel Cardinal ZUBEIR WAKO,
Archbishop of Khartoum
HE John Cardinal Njue,
 Archbishop of Nairobi

Information
received from Vatican stated that a total of 253 people will participate in
this meeting, which is considered an Extraordinary General Assembly which will
be held in Rome from October 5-19, 2014. The Assembly will also have representatives
from other Christian denominations.

The
Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops will be on the theme:
“Pastoral challenges to the family in the context of evangelization”. The aim
of the meeting is “to propose to today’s world the beauty and the values
of the family, which emerge from the proclamation of Jesus Christ Who disperses
fear and supports hope,” the Vatican said.
