Bakhita
Radio of the Archdiocese of Juba which was shut down last month by Sudan
National Security is set to resume its operations on Sunday 14th
September.

Mr. Albino Tokwaro, the station’s director told AMECEA Online News from Juba that the National Security Services
handed back the keys to the station on Friday 12th September 2014. “We
are now waiting for the approval of the Archdiocese administration to resume broadcasting;
the radio station will be back on air on Sunday 14th September, 2014” he
said.

Mr. Tokwaro
also said that some of the conditions given by the National Security Services
for the radio to continue operating include keeping away from politics especially
on the ongoing conflict in the country and focusing on development, education
and agriculture issues.
Radio
Bakhita was shut down by the Sudan National Security Services on 16th
August, when they stormed the station, shutting it down, and arrested several
journalists. Some of the journalists were later released the same day while the
Editor who read morning news that day was detained.
The News
Editor Ocen David Nicholas was later on released on 19th August 2014 but, the National Security service kept the keys to the radio station to keep it
closed. The radio station was shut down due to allegations that they aired a
story reflecting on the opposition’s views.
