MALAWI: Government Guarantees a High Level of Security for the 18th AMECEA Plenary

The Malawi Government has promised the availability of high level security to the participants of the 18th AMECEA plenary Assembly scheduled from 14th -27 July in Lilongwe, Malawi. 
According to Fr. George Buleya, the General Secretary for the Episcopal Conference of
Malawi the promise was made during the meeting that was held on Tuesday, July 08, 2014 at
Catholic Secretariat, Lilongwe. The meeting brought together government officials who
included Principle Secretaries and Directors from various Ministries attended and the
main organizing committee for the 18th Plenary Assembly of AMECEA.
Apart from security issues, Fr. Buleya said that he was delighted that the Government has also committed
itself to supporting the Church in other areas for a successful Plenary Assembly.
On Wednesday, July 09, 2014 a similar meeting was held at
the office of Malawi’s Vice President, His Excellency Saulos Chilima where different
Sub-committees from the main organizing committee briefed the meeting on the
progress made so far.
Among other sub-committees that presented before the Vice
President included Transport, Accommodation, Protocol, Food, Decoration and
Entertainment, Security, Liturgy and Health.
During the meeting, the Vice President, who once chaired the
Publicity Sub-committee of the AMECEA Plenary Preparatory Committee said that government is committed to supporting the AMECEA
plenary and that the State President, Professor Peter Arthur Mutharika has
already given some directives towards supporting the event. 

The Vice
President said that so far, the President who will be available for the opening
Mass at Civo Stadium on July 17, 2014 has already directed that high profile
delegates like Cardinals and Archbishop will get special escorts by Government
vehicles.

Malawi will host the 18th AMECEA plenary from 16th-26th
July at Bingu International Conference Centre in the Capital, Lilongwe.
