ZAMBIA: ZEC Communication Secretary Becomes the New Head of the English and Swahili Service of Vatican Radio

The Director
of the Vatican Radio, Fr. Federico Lombardi, SJ,has appointed the Zambia
Episcopal Conference’s (ZEC) Communication Secretary and Spoke person, Fr. Paul
Samasumo as the new head of the English and Swahili Service of English Africa
at Vatican Radio.
Announcing
the appointment of Fr. Samasumo, ZEC Secretary General Fr. Cleophas Lungu said
that the appointment was arrived at in consultation with the local Bishops.
On behalf of
ZEC, Fr. Lungu wished Fr. Samasumo abundance of God’s blessings as he takes up
his new and noble appointment at the Vatican Radio in Rome.
Fr. Samasumo
is replacing Bishop Moses Hamungole who headed the department before being
appointed Bishop of Monze Diocese, in Zambia. Fr. Samasumo’s appointment takes
effect from June 2014.
Before the
appointment Fr. Samasumo was working as Executive Director of the Catholic
Media Services (CMS) and also the Catholic Media Services Television (CMSTV)
Production Studios as well as the National Secretary for Communications and ZEC
Spokesperson.
Apart from his responsibilities at ZEC, he has been a board member of
the SIGNIS Africa Board; an AMECEA SIGNIS representative.
Fr. Samasumo has expressed gratitude through the ZEC Secretary
General’s office to the Catholic Bishops of Zambia for granting him the
opportunity to serve the Zambian Church at the national level and for agreeing
that he takes up this appointment at the service of the universal Church.
Meanwhile: the
Catholic Bishops in Zambia have appointed Fr. Winfield Kunda to take over as
Catholic Media Services Executive Director and Director of Catholic Media
Television Production Services.
Fr. Kunda is
a priest of Ndola Diocese and is currently a lecturer in Media and Pastoral
Communication at St. Dominic’s Major Seminary, Lusaka.
