“Dear
Priests, you are encouraged to prepare very well for the celebration of
Vocation Sunday. For a meaningful celebration of the day, you may do the
following: teaching the people about importance of vocations in the Church;
Offering special prayers for vocations; preparing the Liturgy for the Vocation
Sunday; Organizing recollection for the youth on vocation and other activities
with the youth or all the faithful in order to promote Vocations,” advised Fr.
Mwakhwawa through a letter to all the Priests in the country.

On
this Vocations Sunday, the money collection in all the Catholic prayer-gatherings
is meant to help in the training of future priests, sisters, and brothers in
the whole world. The money will be collected from all outstations, Small
Christian Communities or prayer houses in all parishes and then sent to the
dioceses.

The
dioceses then send the money to the National Office of the Pontifical Mission
Society (PMS). The PMS National Director eventually sends the money to Rome, to
the Holy Father in the Solidarity Fund. This collection is one of the five
Universal collections in the Catholic Church which shows the solidarity or
oneness in the Catholic Church – cooperation and sharing the material and
spiritual resources in the mission of spreading the Gospel. The Catholic Church
believes in solidarity of all the Catholics for a common mission of spreading
the message of salvation. The solidarity is shown is praying, teaching and offering
money for the good of the Church’s mission of evangelization.
