TANZANIA: Archdiocese of Songea Gets a New Shepherd

The Holy Father Pope Francis, on 14 March 2014, has
appointed Rt. Rev Damian Denis Dallu to be the
Archbishop of Songea.

Until his
appointment Bishop Dallu was the Bishop of Geita Diocese, Tanzania.
Bishop Damian Dennis Dallu was born on 26 Apr 1955 at
Kiponzelo, in Iringa Diocese. He is the youngest child among the six children.
His parents were Catholics who introduced him into the Catholic Faith. Damian
went to school at Kiponzelo Primary School from standard one to four. Later he
joined Kalenga Middle School from Standard five to seven.  After Primary
school, Damian joined Mafinga Minor Seminary where he completed his
high school in 1978.
After High School education, Dallu decided to continue on
with his vocation to priesthood. In 1979 Damian went to Peramiho major seminary
for Philosophy and Theology studies. Dallu was ordained a Priest on November 15th
1984.
Fr. Damian joined higher studies at Catholic University
of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in Nairobi, Kenya. Later on, he went to Belgium for
further studies in Moral Theology. After his studies, Fr Damian Dallu was
appointed to teach at Segerea Major Seminary in Dar es Salaam.
Fr. Dallu was appointed a Bishop of Geita on 14 April
2000.  On 30 July 2000 Fr. Dallu was consecrated and installed the Second Bishop
of the Diocese of Geita. The Principal Consecrator was H.E. Polycarp Cardinal
Pengo, and the Principal Co-Consecrators were the late Bishop Aloysius
Balina, by then Bishop of Shinyanga and Bishop Tarcisius Ngalalekumtwa,
Bishop of Iringa.
