UGANDA: AMECEA Mourns the Death of Bishop Deogratias Byabazaire

Bishop Deogratias Byabazaire.

AMECEA is mourning the death of Bishop Deogratias Byabazaire,
the Bishop of Hoima Diocese. 

 
The Bishop passed away on Saturday, 8 February 2014 at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala,
a few hours after returning from
India where he had been taken for treatment. 
 
Bishop Byabazaire had health complications related
to diabetes and hypertension. He fell sick about 6 years ago and had been in
and out of hospital. 
 
In 2009,
Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI decided to appoint Rt. Rev.

Lambert Bainomugisha,
the Auxiliary Bishop of Mbarara Archdiocese, as the Apostolic Administrator of
Hoima Diocese. He died at the age of 72. 

 
Bishop
Byabazaire was born on 9 October 1941 at Karujubu, Masindi District. He was
ordained a priest on 9 August 1969 and ordained bishop on 18 August 1990. He
was installed as Bishop of Hoima Diocese on 9 March 1991. 
 
Requiem Mass
was held at Rubaga Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Kampala on 11 February 2014.
Burial took place on Thursday, 13 February 2014, at the Cathedral of Hoima
Diocese.
