The Apostolic
Nuncio to Kenya Most Rev Charles Daniel Balvo joined the residents of Kibera
Slum in the celebrations to mark the End of the Year of Faith on Sunday 24th
November at Christ the King Catholic Church-Kibera.

In a colorful celebration
in which Christ the King Parish-Kibera was celebrating the feast day and 29th
anniversary the Apostolic Nuncio also administered the Sacrament of
Confirmation to 133 parishioners who had spent one year in preparation for the
Sacrament.

The Apostolic
Nuncio reminded the parishioners that the Kingship of Christ lies in the Cross.
“Christ the King whom we are celebrating today is a King whose throne is not of
gold and silver and power but is the King whose throne is the Cross,” he said
adding that “Jesus is the King of our hearts and mind; he is the King of
Mercy.”
The Nuncio
encouraged the parishioners of Christ the King Kibera to take the challenges of
their daily lives as their Cross, which is the throne of Christ. “You might be
lacking so many basic things in life and you have to struggle a lot. But
remember that God loves us a lot and no one can take his love away from us.”

Christ the King
Catholic Church-Kibera is situated at Laini Saba area in the heart of Kibera
slum, which is the biggest slum in sub Saharan Africa. Laini Saba is a Swahili
word meaning “seven lines” and refers to the railway line that passes through
the slum.

The parish which
is run by Guadalupe Missionaries in Kenya is not accessible by car therefore
the vehicle that brought the nuncio had to be parked at primary school, which
is about one and a half kilometer away from the Parish Church.
