The
procession was the first of its kind held by the Religious Women in the country.
The spectacular prayer procession began at Consolata Shrine in Westlands
Nairobi, which is approximately five minutes drive to the scene of terror
attack at Westgate. From Consolata Shrine, the nuns who were joined by other
members of the public proceeded to Westgate, and then to MP Shah and Agha Khan Hospitals
respectively where they prayed with the injured who were admitted at two
hospitals.
In
a statement read on their behalf by the Association’s Chairperson Sr. Margaret
Aringo, FSJ, they expressed their sadness and pain caused by the terror attack
on innocent civilians and strongly condemned the act. “During the sadness and
pain of a time like this, we the consecrated women of the Catholic Faith living
a religious life of prayer and service to God: proclaiming the truth and sacredness
of life as a gift from God; we proclaim the unity of the people of God; we
proclaim the love of the people of God; we proclaim the spirit of justice,
strength and courage of the people of God.” the statement said.
The
Nuns further expressed that they decided to Come together to share the gift of
prayer for the victims of terror and sincerely thanked and praised praise the
security mechanisms of Kenya, the friends of Kenya, the Hospitals,
professionals and individuals who came out to give the best they could to
determine the end of the evil act on innocent lives and property.

They
prayed that the souls of the departed during the tragedy may find eternal rest
and that the persons undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during the
attack may experience the healing from Lord our God.
Finally
they also prayed for the owners of the property and businesses destroyed at
Westgate Mall to recover through God’s gift of providence and that Kenya may remain
peaceful ever after.
During
their procession, the nuns sung and recited rosaries as they match. “Although we
always pray to the people of Kenya and other countries in the confines of our
convents and churches, the magnitude of the Westgate tragedy brought us to the
streets to do a prayer procession,” Sr. Aringo said promising that they will
continue to pray for all the people of Kenya.
