UGANDA: Deacon from Soroti Diocese Killed in Car Accident

The Soroti Catholic Deacon has died and two others critically injured from a motor accident they were involved in Friday night along the Soroti-Lira highway.

Deacon Karl Opio was pronounced dead by Dr. Joseph Epodoi of Soroti Regional Referral hospital upon arrival at the hospital, where the three were admitted a short while after the accident.

One of the survivors has been identified as Fr. Denis Asima who is now under medical attention after he sustained many fractured ribs in the right chest.

“By the time the police patrol vehicle brought him to the hospital from the accident scene, Deacon Opio was already dead,” Dr. Epodoi has said.

“We are monitoring the condition of Fr. Asima. He has deep cuts on his forehead.”
