AMECEA: Justice and Peace Desk organizes a workshop for Women

AMECEA Justice and Peace Desk is organizing a Women for Accountability workshop which is scheduled to take place at St. Therese Centre in Karen Nairobi from 5th-9th December 2011.

The participation of this workshop includes representation from all the AMECEA countries with an exception of Eritrea due to its unique political situation.

Our survey has shown that in AMECEA countries and beyond, politicians have continuously used women on account of their huge constituency, as bridges to their political ambitions. This they do through promises which often are empty and the initiated projects stall as soon as the politicians achieve their desired goals. Women for Accountability Workshop is an effort to build the capacity of women in monitoring projects begun in their name and holding their leaders accountable.
The workshop which is meant for TOTs (Training of Trainers) targets women who are already working with women groups and who have the ability to train others and form monitoring committees at their local situations.
The purpose of this TOT (Training of Trainers) workshop is to equip women with monitoring skills and holding the leaders accountable while the anticipated outcome is the formation of women monitoring committees. The overall goal is to improve governance of our leaders.
To enhance sustainability, these women committees will be formed and operated under the watch of Justice and Peace /Caritas commissions of various Conferences. The training of others has a multiplication effect which is a great human resource.
