KENYA: PMS Secretary General calls for the Church in Africa to be Missionary
Secretary General for the Propagation of Faith, Rome Rev. Fr. Timothy Lehane Barret urged the local Catholic Church in Africa to be more missionary minded in order to curb challenges facing the Church currently and in future.
Speaking during the opening of the Pontifical Mission Society (PMS) National Directors meeting from Africa English Speaking countries, Fr Timothy asked the local faithful to own the missionary work of the Church in all aspects.
The Secretary General said that challenges will always be there for the local Church and its followers. But “What is important is the commitment of the Church and its followers to do the Will of God”, he said.
He said that sometimes we worry too much over financial constraints of the Church while rendering service of God. “In some situations, money is not all that important but, what is more essential is Church’s presence among the people”, he said adding that the local Church will have to learn new ways of doing things for the sake of God and His Kingdom.
“The local faithful on the other hand, will have to be educated on how to participate fully in the mission work of the Church, while standing on their own feet”, he said adding that “This is the new evangelization, we are now talking about in the Church.”
