AMECEA: Vatican Official Challenges Catholic Media
Speaking at the AMECEA Secretariat recently during his visit to the AMECEA offices in Nairobi Rev Timothy Lehane said that as the number of catholic population is increasing and more new dioceses created, the fund available for the new dioceses is getting less and less. Thus, there is a need of strategizing on fund raising to meet the needs of the Church. “There is a need of putting together our efforts to bring awareness to our faithful especially the contribution of Mission Sunday,” he said.
Fr Lehane who is in Nairobi for a meeting of National Pontifical Missionary Societies PMS National Directors of English Speaking Africa (NDESA) Regional Meeting called for Catholic Media around the region to use their strength as Mass media to promote Mission Sunday.
Fr Chrisantus Ndaga, the Secretary for Social Communication at AMECEA has promised to turn this challenge into an opportunity as he is planning to call a meeting that will bring PMS National Directors and National Coordinators for Communication to strategize how best they can use the Catholic and even secular media to bring awareness to the people/faithful and so promote it before the mission Sunday of 2012.
