KENYA: Cardinal Njue marks 25 years as Bishop
It was all happiness and ululation as John Cardinal Njue on Sunday September 25, 2011 marked his Silver Jubilee as a bishop at a colourful Mass held at Nairobi’s Holy Family Minor Basilica.
The occasion coincided with the marking of a similar jubilee by Embu Diocese, where he was first appointed bishop by Pope John Paul 11, 25 years ago.
In his homily, Cardinal Njue thanked God for having journeyed with him in the last twenty five years.
“This is no small time and I real thank God for having journeyed with me all that time,” he said.
The Cardinal urged the faithful to constantly remember him in their prayers. He said the last twenty five years in the episcopate were not easy. He cited the case of Embu, where he served as the first bishop.
“When we began the Diocese, we had practically nothing, to take off from, but we did see God’s hand in place.,”he said.
Addressing the congregation, Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Archbishop Alain Paul Lebeaupin said the Cardinal has excelled as a hard-working servant of God in the vineyard.
“You have been a good example of a committed servant of God in the vineyard,” he emphasized.
He said the Pope had sent the Cardinal a congratulatory message on his Silver Jubilee in the episcopate as a sign of his recognition of his performance in God’s work
