NATIONAL ANNUAL COMMEMORATION OF THE SERVANT OF GOD MAURICE MICHAEL CARDINAL OTUNGA
His Eminence the Late Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga was a cardinal for 24 years. He passed on in 2003, leaving behind a truly graceful legacy, having journeyed with the Catholic Church in Kenya from its humble beginnings. The process of his canonization is ongoing.
The Catholic Church in Kenya has aside September 6th as the day for the National Annual Commemoration of the Servant of God Maurice Cardinal Otunga. This year 2011, will be the first year for such celebrations. With God’s grace and granted the status of Sainthood, Cardinal Otunga will be the first African Saint from Southern Sahara to have attained Sainthood by his way of life.
To mark the occasion, His Eminence John Cardinal Njue invites you to the Cardinal Otunga Memorial Mass which he will preside over at the Holy Family Minor Basilica on 6th September 2011 at 1 pm and thereafter a Cardinal Otunga Memorial Lecture that will be given at 3.00 pm by Rev. Anthony Muheria, Bishop of Kitui, in the Holy Family Minor Basilica Hall. This will be followed by a fundraising towards the Cardinal Otunga Scholarship Fund which will be presided over by Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, EGH Prime Minister, Republic of Kenya.
The Cardinal Otunga Scholarship helps to educate needy students at CUEA by partially meeting their tuition fee.
