AMECEA MOURNS THE DEATH OF BISHOP PAUL FRANCIS DUFFY OMI, BISHOP EMERITUS OF MONGU DIOCESE ZAMBIA

It is with great shock and deep sorrow that AMECEA has received the news of the death of Bishop, Paul Francis Duffy OMI, Bishop Emeritus of Mongu Diocese.
He died on Tuesday 23rd August, 2011, around 17:30 Zambian time at the Oblate retirement home in San Antonio Texas, USA after an illness with leukaemia.
Bishop Paul Francis Duffy was born on 25th July, 1932 at Norwood, Massachusetts, USA. He entered the congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in the USA in 1952 and was ordained priest on 22nd December, 1962. He came to Zambia in 1984 and worked in Lukulu (1984-1990) and Kalabo (1990 – 1997). He received his Episcopal ordination as first Bishop of Mongu on 31st August, 1997. He has been Bishop of Mongu until May 28th, 2011 when his successor Monsignor Evans Chinyama Chinyemba OMI was consecrated Bishop of Mongu.
The late Bishop Duffy was AMECEA Executive Board Member 2008-2011 and also chairman of Justice and Peace Zambia.
